Google Tag Manager Container Audit

Upload a JSON file from Google Tag Manager to audit the tags.

Download the JSON file from Google Tag Manager by following these steps:

  1. Log in to your Google Tag Manager account.
  2. Click on the container you want to audit.
  3. Go to admin section of your container
  4. Click on "Export Container".
  5. Choose "JSON" as the export format.
  6. Click on "Export".

Below are the important columns in the export excel

  1. name - name of the tag of trigger
  2. vendor - if the tag is by facebook, google etc
  3. custom_html - the actual HTML used
  4. variables_used - the variables used in the custom html
  5. gtm_entity - if it's a tag, trigger or variable
  6. ID_destination - the ID for remarketing tag, pixels etc if known
  7. paused - if the tag is paused or not
